History
In high school, I had a strong desire to make functionalware and hoped to take an advanced ceramics class. I practiced all year, coming into school an hour or two early to throw daily. The pieces resembled nothing of my work today, but with time came an appreciation for the art and a passion to learn more.
In college I continued to work in clay by living in special interest housing with 12 other students who loved clay. There I was able to gain more knowledge of the medium, immersed in world of clay only seen in books and magazines. As a sophomore, I became the student program director for the group and continued to work in clay and help others find their expression in clay.
After two years of student directing and learning from Joan Watson and the other members of the L/L Pottery Cooperative, I graduated from UVM and moved back to Massachusetts to attend UMASS Dartmouth to continue my studies in clay.
The first year at UMD was to gain more knowledge of clay taking clay formulation and glaze chemistry classes and to continue my understanding of crystalline glazes. I also took classes in advanced throwing and large scale handbulding where I enhanced my skills and mastery of the craft.
In my second year, I was in the Post-Baccalaureate Program at UMD to get a Certificate in Artisanry of Ceramics. I completed my studies at UMD in the Spring of 2008 and am now creating work to sell to galleries and individuals.
